The idea behind this is to get rid of dull monotonous water and make it interesting to drink. Air up is a start-up, founded by a team of five: Fabian Schlang, Tim jägar, Lena jüngst, Simon Nüesch, and Jannis Koppitz. They had a motive to alter the taste of the water without altering the composition of the drink. When water is added in the air up bottles, there is no alteration done in the water rather a fragrant effect gives the sensation of flavor.
Confused? Let’s analyze step-by-step how does this bottle works?
When we consume anything that has an aroma, our olfactory system sends signals to the brain and our brain perceives it as flavor. This is the concept behind air up bottles and pods. There is a specific space designed near the mouth of the bottle where fragrant pods are fixed. When the water is consumed through the mouth of the bottle, these pods provide scents. This scents rise to the brain and give the perception of the flavor. It’s not adding any compound in the water, just give the perception of flavor by using scents.
You may have many questions like why should we use this? How is it different from the flavored market available in the market? And if we are using, how long can we use this?
Well, when going on a trip, we don’t want to drink normal water. Many of us prefer soft drinks or juice. Considering the health point of view, we need something that is not only good in taste but also consists of no additives and sugars? Many people believe to consume flavored water but that also consists of acids, sugars, and flavors. Also, is it possible to carry a crate of flavored water while going on a trip? Obviously, no. Talking about the life of these pods to provide scent, it has been claimed that all pods contain natural aromas and one pod can work for 5L of water, provided it is closed after every use. There is an option available where one can activate the pod before consuming water and then close it to prevent the fragrance loss. Also, pods should be attached to the bottle with the open side towards the mouth so that scent can easily reach to the olfactory system.
According to the company, pods are available in many flavors such as Kola, Cherry, raspberry & lemon, Tangerine, orange & Passion fruit, Peach, lemon & Hops, Apple, Lime, cardamom, and Cucumber.
